If you do not know, the DCAU (the Detective Comics Animated Universe) not to be confused with the DCAMU (the Detective Comics Animated Movie Universe) or the DCOAMU (the Detective Comics Original Animated Movie Universe) was the animated DC universe that began in Batman: The Animated Series and ended in Justice League: Unlimited. (Justice League vs the Fatal Five is set during the events Justice League Unlimited)
Batman
The first series: Batman: The Animated Series, redefined animation as a whole. It won multiple awards, and to many people, is the definitive Batman. Not many people know that their are three spinoff shows to Batman: The Animated Series. The Adventures of Batman and Robin and Batman the Adventures Continue are brief continuations of the original series, and can be viewed as more seasons, but The New Batman Adventures however, rebranded the entire series, with new characters and designs, with questionable tie in comics.
Their is another famous Batman series, Batman Beyond, which brought this character into the DC comics more famously. This series follows an older version of Bruce Wayne training teenager, Terry Mcguiness as the new Batman in 2039. He faces the Jokers, who eventually bring the Joker back to life.
Super-Man
With Batman's own animated TV show, Super-Man needed one, so they released Super-Man: The Animated Series. This included various cameos from other Super-Hero characters. This may of seen the DCAU's Barry Allen (we'll come back to that later) Kyle Rayner's Green Lantern, Shazam and a beardless Aquaman also make an appearance.
Justice League
After Super-Man introduced more heroes, it was a no brainer for their not to be a Justice League show. The team included Batman, Super-Man, Wonder-Woman, Wally West's Flash, the Green Lantern (John Stewart) and Hawkgirl. It is just usually the regular Justice League adventures until the massive expansion of the team in Justice League: Unlimited, including 69 more members! The show eventually ended in Epilogue. Then after that, it had four more episodes and another movie: Justice League vs the Fatal Five.
Other Stuff
As well as the main superhero series we have a lot of weird series's including: The Zeta Project, Static Shock, the web-series's, Lobo and Gotham Girls. We have many projects like the spinoff comics and books, the semi-canon movies, like Batman and Harley Quinn and Justice League on Two Earths.
But the DCAU hasn't ended, they have made a movie after the shows that is canon, being Fatal Five. However, we might see a Crisis set in the Universe, Barry Allen does not appear in this universe, but their has been a theory that the Flash in Super-Man The Animated Series was Barry, as he does have a different voice and suit. Maybe in the Crisis movie we would see him die?
